Mechanical Engineer

Job summary: The Mechanical Engineer position will be responsible for identifying, selecting, specifying, modifying, and verifying components, sub-assemblies, modules and mechanical equipment and hardware systems including appropriate documentation and mechanical design. This is an on-site position in Allentown, PA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide forward looking product line design concepts and develop environments which allow company products to meet the rapidly changing market demands and establish a technological edge in the marketplace;

  • Participate in technical activities of moderate to large design teams and establish new techniques for testing and manufacturing of products;

  • Provide technical expertise and consultation to team members;

  • Conduct and participate in design reviews and design concept meetings;

  • Handle Field Technical Action Requests (FTAR) for safety, out of specification conditions, or product enhancements;

  • Perform advanced problem diagnosis, root cause analysis, solution planning, implementation, and verification;

  • Define mechanical integration requirements, modules, interfaces and nonstandard designs;

  • Create required drawings and specifications in conformance with standard manufacturing codes;

  • Provide sustaining engineering support for manufacturing;

  • Review and respond to Engineering Change Requests (ECR);

  • Resolve advanced product problems during the manufacturing process;

  • Integrate modifications into standard modules or sub-assemblies;

  • Implement product enhancements and retrofits for customers;

  • Liaise with Field Service and external customers as needed to define requirements;

  • Obtain applicable engineering drawing(s) and identify impacted modules, sub-assemblies, and components;

  • Modify or create drawings for new components/modules;

  • Create integration drawing and bill of materials for all modifications;

  • Assemble installation kits including hardware, and documentation for Field Support;

  • Create required manufacturing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)/Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to fabricate modified assemblies or modules and partner with Technical Publications to prepare required customer documentation;

  • Prepare technical justification for engineering changes, including impact on process, specification, quality, reliability etc.;

  • Ensure all materials meet reliability and quality standards and conform to customer requirements; and

  • Propose improvements and tracks performance.

  • ~15% travel required to unanticipated customer sites both domestic and international for 3-5 days per trip for situations requiring additional technical expertise.

 

Required qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field;

  • 6 months of experience working as a Mechanical Engineer;

  • Experience working in a mechanical manufacturing environment of batch equipment;

  • Experience using CAD software package. (SolidWorks, AutoCAD);

  • Experience performing advanced theoretical verification of engineering proposals;

  • Experience creating and interpreting engineering drawings;

  • Experience programming and debugging PLCs and C# applications to enhance manufacturing process automation;

  • Experience diagnosing and resolving technical issues in manufacturing systems;

  • Experience conducting design reviews and providing feedback to ensure product quality and adherence to industry standards;

  • Experience handling Field Technical Action Requests (FTAR); and

  • Experience handling manufacturing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)/Engineering Change Requests (ECRs).
